THE SCENE: After hearing about the majesty of King Hrolf’s court, life in a farming village doesn’t much appeal to aspiring warriors like Svipdag and his brothers.
THE TEXT: “After hearing your report, father, I and all my brothers are determined to serve King Hrolf, if he will accept us.” Farmer Svip said, “You must decide for yourself about your travels and other affairs, but I would like you to stay home with me.”
The brothers said there was no hope of that. Then they wished their father and mother a good life and set off on their way, journeying until they reached King Hrolf.
