Welcome to Echoes of Dead Worlds. My goal with this site is to give a glimpse of bygone eras through a mix of bizarre, amusing, or illuminating passages straight out of ancient and medieval texts.

Traditional histories, with their focus on describing “what happened”, often miss out on what makes the hazy eras of history so fun to study, namely their strangeness and their humor. Through this site, I hope to provide a window into a time when the entire world was defined by violence, magic, and unpredictable luck.

About Me

Echoes of Dead Worlds was created and is maintained by myself — “Saxo” McPherson. I love reading ancient books because of the way it feels like you are in direct communication with someone who lived (and died) a long time ago. The books thereby give you a window into a “Dead World”.

More broadly speaking, I’m an enthusiast of all bygone things, although I’m not above admitting that the present has a lot to recommend it, too.
